An image capturing device, method and program are provided to detect a real face from a face candidate with good precision by reducing the amount of calculation. A CPU initiates processing to capture a through image(ST1). A face detecting unit detects all the face candidates included in the through image(ST2). A face forming element detecting unit detects face forming element candidates of each face forming element(ST3). A determining unit determines whether or not the sum of the total number of the detected face forming element candidates of each face forming element is larger than a threshold value(ST4). If the sum is greater than the threshold value, the face candidate to be processed is determined as a real face and detected(ST5). The CPU checks whether or not the determining unit terminates the determining process on every face candidate(ST7). If the determining unit terminates the determining process, the CPU displays a through image surrounded by a rectangular area as a real face on a monitor(ST9).
