An authentication device is provided to perform biometric authentication with one authentication device regardless of an access direction of a living body such as a finger and reduce a cost of the authentication device by detecting the access direction of the living body, and combining biometric information obtained from the living body and a template based on the detected access direction. A biometric information obtaining sensor(220) obtains biometric information from a living body. An access direction detection sensor(250) detects an access direction of the living body. A storing part stores templates used for biometric authentication. An authenticator authenticates the living body by using the detected living body access direction, the obtained biometric information, and the template. The authenticator performs the authentication by matching the access direction of the biometric information with the access direction of the template.
