A METHOD FOR XYLITOL PRODUCTION USING THE HYDROLYSATE CONTAINING XYLOSE AND ARABINOSE PREPARED FROM BYPRODUCT OF TROPICAL FRUIT BIOMASS

A method for preparing a hydrolysate including xylose and arabinose is provided to produce the xylose and arabinose efficiently from tropical fruit biomass such as coconut shell, palm shell and oil palm empty fruit bunch(OPEFB) through acid-hydrolysis, electrodialysis, and ion purification. A method for preparing a hydrolysate including xylose and arabinose comprises the steps of: (a) acid-hydrolyzing a byproduct of tropical fruit biomass at an acid concentration of 0.2 - 5%, at a temperature of 100-200 deg.C for 30 minutes to 10 hours to obtain the hydrolysate including xylose and arabinose; and (b) separating and purifying the hydrolysate by an electrodialysis or an electrodialyzer, wherein the byproduct of tropical fruit biomass is coconut shell, palm shell or OPEFB. To prepare an active carbon, a residue of the hydrolysate prepared by the acid-hydrolysis of the tropical fruit shell is carbonized and activated at a temperature of 500-1,000 deg.C for 72-168 hours. Further, the electrodialyzer contains an ion exchange film, electrode plates, a pump for adjusting amount of water and a rectifier.
