A printing apparatus is provided to allow a user to replace an empty ink cartridge without affecting a printing operation. A printing apparatus comprises a cartridge container(12) having first and second ink cartridges(104a,104b). First and second cartridge connection valves(302a,302b) are connected with the first and second ink cartridges, respectively. A printer head(18) includes first and second nozzle arrays(202-1a,202-1b) corresponding to the first and second ink cartridges, respectively. A first ink supply passage(16-1a) allows the first ink cartridge to be connected with the first nozzle array through the first cartridge connection valve through connection of the first cartridge connection valve and the first nozzle array. A second ink supply passage(16-1b) allows the second ink cartridge to be connected with the second nozzle array through the second cartridge connection valve through connection of the second cartridge connection valve and the second nozzle array.
