A support device for a portable spot welder is provided to increase the operating range of the portable spot welder by manipulating a foot starting switch when an object to be welded is positioned on a welding gun unit. A support device for a portable spot welder comprises a driving cylinder, a hand starting switch, a support frame(57), a gun sheet(59), a clamping switch(63), an unclamping switch(65), a foot starting switch(67), and a controller(C). The support frame is formed at the upper part of two support beams fixed on a base plate. The gun sheet is integrated to the front of the support frame to mount one lower side of the gun frame. The clamping unit has a clamper for clamping and unclamping the gun frame to the gun sheet on the support frame according to the forward and reverse operation of a clamping cylinder(71). The clamping switch outputs a clamping signal when the gun frame is mounted on the gun sheet. The unclamping switch(65) outputs an unclamping signal by manipulation of a worker. The foot starting switch outputs a starting signal by manipulation of the worker. The controller includes a starting switch converting module for controlling a starting switch between a hand starting switch and the foot starting switch when the clamping switch is operated or not.
