A liquid crystal display device and a method for driving the same are provided to reduce the number of data lines by horizontally arranging respective pixel cells. A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel(100), a gate built-in circuit, and a drive integrated circuit. The display unit has a plurality of pixel cells(110), which is formed on every region defined by a plurality of data lines and gate lines. The gate built-in circuit is formed on the display panel, and drives gate lines. The drive integrated circuit is mounted on the liquid crystal panel, and drives the gate built-in circuit. The drive integrated circuit modulates an image signal supplied to the data lines according to a peripheral temperature of the liquid crystal panel.
