An automatic sound control device, a method thereof, and a portable terminal using the same are provided to optimally output audio signals according to the present state, regardless of the exterior shape of a portable terminal and the location of a speaker. An automatic sound control device in a portable terminal comprises a device state sensor part(150), a control part(160), and an audio processing part(140). The device state sensor part detects a motion change in the portable terminal. In this case, the device state sensor part detects a state that the speaker area of the portable terminal is partially or entirely exposed or veiled. Also the device state sensor detects the sliding or non-sliding state of the portable terminal. The control part sets up sound source compensation data differently according to the detected motion change. The audio processing part applies the sound source compensation data to an audio file.
