An MCU(Micro Control Unit) capable of lengthening a data holding time and a method thereof is provided to reduce power consumption and lengthen the data holding time of the MCU in an electronic device using a battery. A low voltage detection block(420) detects a battery voltage level and outputs an operation mode control signal based on the detected battery voltage level by responding to an interrupt signal. A reset signal generator(430) generates a system reset signal based on the operation mode control signal. The low voltage detection block generates the operation mode control signal for disabling the reset signal generator when the detected battery voltage level is lower than a predetermined voltage level range. The low voltage detection block is disabled by a stop command received from a CPU(440). An interrupt controller(410) is enabled and generates the interrupt signal in response to an external interrupt signal. An LVD(Low Voltage Detector) controller(423) receives an interrupt signal(INT), and outputs an LVD enable signal(Le) to enable an LVD(425) by corresponding to the received interrupt signal.
