An image forming apparatus, a control method thereof and a computer-readable medium storing the same are provided to calculate the remaining quantity of recording media loaded on a loading plate and notify a user of the calculated remaining quantity, thereby preventing the image of image data from not being formed on the recording media due to a shortage of the remaining quantity. An image forming unit(1) forms an image. A loading plate(230) loading recording media(P) is joined to a loading cassette to lift. A pick-up roller(210) picks up the loaded recording media one by one to supply the recording medium to the image forming unit. A weight detecting sensor(233) is installed on the loading plate to detect the total weight of the recording media loaded on the loading plate. A lift motor(240) lifts the loading plate so that the pick-up roller picks up the recording media. An encoder detects rpm of the lift motor according to the supply of the recording media to the image forming unit. A control unit calculates the remaining quantity of the recording media loaded on the loading plate on the basis of information detected in the weight detecting sensor and the encoder.
