#CMT# #/CMT# The method involves generating a fingerprint (11) by compression of content (12) of an electronic document (10) according to a given algorithm e.g. message-digest algorithm 5 (MD5), where the document comprises data in the form of alphanumeric characters. The fingerprint is combined with a private key (14) for forming a digital signature (15) to be affixed on the electronic document. The fingerprint is associated with words or numbers (16) of content in the document. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Method for generating a digital signature to be affixed on an electronic document for managing the document, in technical, administrative or juridic field. Uses include but are not limited to sale contract, tender invitation, library document, electronic document of corporate customers such as insurance or bank customers, instrument, government contract or patent. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The fingerprint is associated with the words or the numbers of the content in the document, so that the fingerprint gives a signification of the document, while permitting to reconstitute or restore the content of the document from the fingerprint. The fingerprint can be used for indexing the electronic documents by an archiving third party or for constituting the thesaurus of a database.
