An active tire track control system and a method for controlling the same are provided to control an AGCS actuator accurately by sensing lateral acceleration of a vehicle and matching with the real turning direction. A method for controlling an active tire track control system comprises the steps: detecting increasing speed, steering angle, and acceleration(S1); judging a turning direction in accordance with detected speed, steering angle and acceleration and controlling an opposite wheel to turning direction(S2,S5); sensing lateral acceleration of the vehicle(S3,S6); and judging a real turning direction in accordance with the detected values and controlling the opposite wheel to turning direction if real turning direction and selected turning direction(S4).
