A card issuing device and a method for supplying power for a printer head of the same are provided to protect electric shocks of a user and damages of the printer header in case of exchanging ribbons or printer heads. A card issuing device includes a main power source unit(110), a switch(120), a controller(140) and a printer head(160). The main power source unit supplies power, into which commercial power is properly converted, for each circuit of the card issuing device. The switch performs an on or off operation according as a cover, rotatable with respect to a main body of the card issuing device, gets open or closed. The controller supplies a control signal for a relay(150) which controls the supply of power for the printer head according to a sensing result of the switch(120).
