PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid wire which is excellent in the feeding stability, the burn-through resistance, the under-cut resistance, and the crack resistance, and hardly produces the slag and spatter, and can give the hardness to the weld metal so as not to be lower than the hardness of a base material, and does not cause the brittle fracture while suppressing the increase of a welding cost to a minimum. SOLUTION: The solid wire contains, by mass%, 0.005 to 0.080% of C, 0.30 to 1.20% of Si, 1.15 to 1.65% of Mn, 0.050 to 0.200% of S, 0.01% or less of P, 0.0070% or less of O, 0.0050% or less of N, and the rest of Fe and impurities, and satisfies the following condition, C+(P×5)≤0.135%, wherein the contents of Ti, B, Cr, Ni, Nb, V, Zr, La, and Ce, as impurities, are suppressed to be lower than specified contents respectively, and further the oil stuck on the surface of the solid wire is set to be lower than 1.2 g or less per 10 kg of the wire.
