The method involves generating graphical user interface (GUI) editors (540) to facilitate a user in providing settings information for general purpose input output pins of a chip. A source code is generated based on operating results of the GUI editors. An object file compiled from the generated source code is linked to generate an embedded target image. A description file including statements describing hardware configurations for the pins and variables used in a software application resident on the embedded system, is parsed. The GUI editors are generated based on the parsed results. An independent claim is also included for a system comprising a display.
