PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal device capable of automatically controlling the directivity of a speaker provided in a portable terminal device in accordance with surrounding environment of a user of the portable terminal device, and selectively controlling tone quality. SOLUTION: The is provided with: a human sensor 400 for detecting a position of a person who is present in a prescribed direction with respect to the portable terminal device capable of outputting sound wave so that a directivity range can freely be changed; a sound reproducer 500 for changing the directivity range of a sound wave to output it on the basis of a detection result from the human sensor 400; and a CPU 4 for outputting sound information which is inputted to the portable terminal device 100 or stored in a memory card 18 to the sound reproducer 500. In accordance with surrounding situations, the directivity range of the sound wave is automatically controlled, and the sound quality of output sound is used differently, so that the user can comfortably listen to sound from the portable terminal device 100.
