A low-profile binder. The binder (10) has a holding member (16) having a length in which binding rings (12, 14) can be installed at intervals, an operating member (18) secured to the inside of the holding members (16), and an opening/closing member (40). The operating member (18) is constructed from a pair of operating pieces (30, 32) to which the binding rings (12, 14) are secured. To contain the opening/closing member (40), an opening/closing member containing part (36) is recessed from the rear surface, which is on the opposite side of the surface to which the binding rings (12, 14) are secured, toward the front surface. On the rear surface on the opposite side of the front surface to which the binding rings (12, 14) are secured, the opening/closing member (40) is secured to the opening/closing member containing part (36) of the operating member (18). When the binding rings (12, 14) are opened, the operating pieces are moved in the holding member (16), in the longitudinal direction of the holding member (16), and the binding rings (12, 14) are moved in the opening direction so that the operating pieces can be held in the direction of approaching the inner surface of the holding member (16).
