TEST PLUG AND METHOD FOR MONITORING DOWNSTREAM CONDITIONS

A test plug assembly includes a shaft on which an annular elastic seal and compression elements are mounted. The compression elements confront opposite axial sides of the annular seal and are movable relative to one another for axially compressing and radially expanding the seal into fluid-tight sealing engagement with an inner peripheral wall of a pipe. A transducer is mounted on the distal end of the shaft and measures a condition within the pipe at a location beyond the seal. For example, the transducer is a temperature compensation pressure transducer for obtaining pressure measurements within the downstream portion of the pipe beyond the test plug The transducer produces electrical signals and is in communication with a control unit located externally of the pipe. The control unit converts the electronic signals of the transducer for driving a display apparatus to provide visible or audible information and/or warning signals concerning the measurements.
