<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric ceramic, which has a large piezo dynamic d<SB>33</SB>constant, can be used even under an elevated temperature of 200°C, and has a small change of dynamic d<SB>33</SB>constant at 200°C from dynamic d<SB>33</SB>constant at room temperature, and also to provide a piezoelectric element. <P>SOLUTION: The piezoelectric ceramic comprises 100 parts by mass of a bismuth layered compound as a main component and 0.05 to 1 part by mass in total, in terms of oxides (MnO<SB>2</SB>and Fe<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>), of at least one of Mn and Fe. The bismuth layered compound is expressed by a composition formula, Bi<SB>4</SB>Ti<SB>3</SB>O<SB>12</SB>-β[(1-γ)M1TiO<SB>3</SB>-γM2M3O<SB>3</SB>], and the relationships of 0.405≤β≤0.498 and 0≤γ≤0.3 are satisfied; where M1 represents at least one of Sr, Ba, Ca, (Bi<SB>0.5</SB>Na<SB>0.5</SB>), (Bi<SB>0.5</SB>Li<SB>0.5</SB>), and (Bi<SB>0.5</SB>K<SB>0.5</SB>); M2 is at least one of Bi, Na, K, and Li; and M3 is at least one of Fe and Nb; M2 is at least one of Bi, Na, K, and Li; and M3 is at least one of Fe and Nb. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
