PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a luminescent polymer material derived from a monomer which is decreased or eliminated in the faults of a luminous lanthanide acrylate monomer has. SOLUTION: Provided is a monomer which luminesces in the visible region upon excitation represented by the formula: M<SP>n+</SP>(L)<SP>n-</SP>(CL)<SB>x</SB>. In the formula, n+ is the valency of M; (L) is one or more anionic ligands with a total valency of n- such that at least one of the ligands has the formula: Ch-X-Y (in the formula, Ch is a chelate/ion binding group which is a ligand fragment comprising the chelate binding site and the part of the rest of the ligand with which the binding sites are conjugated, Y is an olefinic group, and X is a spacer or binding site composed of a chain comprising at least four carbons and hetero atoms); x is 0, 1 or 2; CL is a neutral co-ligand; and M is a 2, 12, 13, or d- or f-block metal atom.
