PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overcoat film on an anisotropic film, capable of constituting an optical element excellent heat resistance, processing resistance and durability even if lying on the anisotropic film formed by such a wet film-forming process that solvent and/or moisture tend to be left in the film. SOLUTION: A composition for the overcoat film formed on an anisotropic film is provided, comprising a hydrophilic compound and a hydrophobic compound; wherein the hydrophilic compound is preferably a monomer compound having at least one hydrophilic group among those consisting of hydroxy, ether, amido, carboxy, sulfo and amino groups.
