The invention relates to a method for determining, and if necessary locat ing, leaks in pipe (1) by means of at least one electric conductor (L) exten ding along the longitudinal extension of the pipe (1) from a first measuring point (MSi, i= 1...n) to a second measuring point (MSj, j= 1...n), wherein a measurement signal in the form of temporally variable voltage is applied t o the electric conductor (L), and wherein the impedance behavior of the cond uctor (L) is used to determine the presence of a leak. According to the inve ntion, a first measurement signal in the form of temporally variable voltage is transmitted from the first measuring point (MSi) via the electric conduc tor (L) to the second measuring point (MSj), and both measuring points (MSi, MSj) evaluate the impedance of the electric line (L), wherein the second me asuring point (MSj) by means of a first result signal transmits the result o f the impedance evaluation to the first measuring point (MSi) so that it tem porally overlaps the first measurement signal, and wherein the first measure ment signal and the first result signal are in superposition-free frequency bands.
