<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flow-through type oxidation catalyst disposed on the upstream side of a particulate filter in the exhaust gas passage of a diesel engine with high particulate collection capacity, while avoiding the increase of a size. <P>SOLUTION: The oxidation catalyst 30 disposed in the exhaust gas passage of the diesel engine has carrier structure of the catalyst carrier of the flow-through type. Each cell 31 of the catalyst carrier is spirally formed with respect to a carrier center axis, and a catalyst layer with an average hole diameter of 0.1 μm or more is provided on the surface of each cell 31. This configuration increases collisions of exhaust gas with the cells 31, and the oxidation catalyst 30 has excellent collection capacity of particulates in the exhaust gas. Since the particulates in the exhaust gas are effectively collected in the hole of the porous catalyst layer on the cell surfaces, even when the catalyst carrier is a flow-through type, the oxidation catalyst 30 has a high particulate collection capacity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
