PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image reading device which has improved illumination efficiency. SOLUTION: The image reading device 200 includes an illumination device 10, the illumination device 10 having a plurality of LEDs and illumination lenses, splitting a luminous flux to be emitted from the light sources into a plurality of luminous fluxes with the use of the illumination lenses, superimposing the plurality of split luminous fluxes and irradiating a reading surface with the superimposed luminous fluxes. The image reading device 200 causes an image forming lens 21 to form an image of reflection light from the reading surface illuminated by the illumination device on a line sensor imaging element 20, reads the reading surface in a sub-scanning direction orthogonal to a main scanning direction, while linearly reading the reading surface in the main scanning direction, and reads a planar image.
