PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clearance closing device for a movable partition device of the lower load type constituted to guide the upper part of a movable panel by a guide rail provided at the ceiling while allowing the lower part to travel on a floor face, moving and guiding a plurality of movable panels from a direction changing part to a series holding part, then bringing a baseboard member into pressure contact with the floor face by a lift mechanism to place the movable panels in the movement regulated state, and closing a clearance above the movable panel located at the direction changing part to give continuity between the series holding part and the direction changing part to thereby attain unification in the appearance of the upper part. SOLUTION: The vertical dimension of the direction changing part is set smaller than that of the series holding part, and a closing member 37 is provided in a height adjustable manner in a recessed groove part 20 of an upper frame 12 of the movable panel 1 located at the direction changing part. The movable panel is lifted by the lift mechanism 5 to close the clearance between the upper end of the movable panel and the direction changing part with the closing member, and the closing member is continuous in appearance with the series holding part.
