PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize improvement in discharge characteristics, brightness, and dark contrast in a plasma display panel provided with a barrier rib. SOLUTION: This plasma display panel is equipped with a front glass substrate 1 and a rear glass substrate 4 opposed via a discharge space, a plurality of row electrode pairs (X, Y) installed on this front glass substrate 1 side, a plurality of column electrodes D which are installed in a direction intersecting against the row electrode pairs (X, Y) on the rear glass substrate 4 side so as to be extended and in which discharge cells are respectively formed in the discharge space of respective intersecting parts with the row electrode pairs (X, Y), and a phosphor layer 7 installed at a position facing the discharge cell C between this column electrodes D and the row electrode pairs. In the discharge space S, a ternary system discharge gas in which neon gas, xenon gas, and helium gas are mixed is sealed, and a barrier rib 6 which partitions the discharge space at every discharge cell C is installed between the front glass substrate 1 and the rear glass substrate 4, and magnesium oxide is contained in the phosphor layer 7.
