PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDP which carries out luminance display by opposed discharge, in which improvement in quality of luminance display is achieved. SOLUTION: The area of transparent electrodes Xb, Yb opposed to a required discharge cell C of row electrodes X, Y to constitute a row electrode pair (X, Y) is established in different sizes corresponding to the location in the panel surface of the discharge cell C. In each of the discharge cell C of the PDP, out of a plurality of column electrodes D(R), D(G), D(B) for generating opposed discharge through a discharge space between one of the row electrode Y of the row electrode pair (X, Y), wide width portions D(R)b, D(R)c, D(G)b, D(G)c are formed at a portion opposed to the transparent electrode Yb of the row electrode Y of the required column electrode, and the area of this wide width portions D(R)b, D(R)c, D(G)b, D(G)c is established in different sizes corresponding to the location in the panel surface of the discharge cell C.
