Method and system for performing an inter-domain handover of a communication path from a first network domain to a second network domain, the inter-domain handover being initiated by a mobile device. The mobile device transmits a resource request and/or an authentication request to the first network domain and instructs the first network domain to obtain information on the availability of communication resources at the second network domain for handling the communication path. The second network domain may inquire at the second network domain, whether sufficient communication resources are available. In response thereto, the mobile device receives a resource response and/or authentication response, indicating whether communication resources are available at the second network domain, and indicating whether the mobile device was successfully authenticated. Thereafter, an inter-domain handover of the communication path from the first network domain to the second network domain is initiated by the mobile device. |
