The method involves receiving images (B) from surrounding of a motor vehicle (1) by a camera (2) e.g. omni-directional camera, arranged at the motor vehicle. A point of view (V) of the motor vehicle and surrounding is generated in a bird's eye view based on the image of the camera. The point of view in the bird's eye view is analyzed based on the presence of an object in the surrounding of the motor vehicle. A determination is made to find whether the object acts as a person (5). An independent claim is also included for a device for monitoring a motor vehicle.
