PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-human model animal having mental retardation, and to provide a method for screening a substance having activity for improving mental retardation symptoms, using the model animal. SOLUTION: The non-human model animal having mental retardation with PQBP-1 (polyglutamine tract binding protein-1) functions deleted is provided.
