The method involves utilizing a hygroscopic fluid e.g. saline solution, as a carrier medium. Reaction temperature is set over a suspension dew point. Desulfurized exhaust gas (2) is dehumidified in an absorption stage (3) by a hygroscopic working solution. The solution is heated-up with increased temperatures, and the heat is supplied into a heat exchanger (5) as useful heat. A part of the solution is concentrated in a heated desorber (7) before it is again supplied to the solution. Produced desorber vapor is condensed under transfer of the useful heat, and is delivered as distillate.
