<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmitter restoring HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connection with a simple operation when an abnormal video image such as a sandstorm is displayed and noise also occurs in a receiving apparatus connected through an HDMI cable. <P>SOLUTION: When an abnormal video image such as a sandstorm is displayed and noise also occurs in the receiving apparatus, a user presses down a reset key in order to eliminate the abnormal state, and a disconnection request determination means determines that there is a disconnection request for the HDMI cable, and an unconnected state setting means sets an equivalent unconnected state in which the transmitting apparatus and the receiving apparatus are not connected by the HDMI cable. Then, a reconnection processing means reconnects the HDMI cable by detecting voltage of a line of an HPD (Hot Plug Detector).
