PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a train control system for controlling trains while considering a gradient and a curve without requiring expensive on-vehicle apparatuses and/or ground facilities, thereby improving riding quality. SOLUTION: The train control system is provided with: a speed detecting means 3 for detecting the train speed of an own train; a gradient detecting means 4 for detecting the gradient or gradient acceleration of the route where the own train travels; and an ATC apparatus 5 for determining control commands in response to speed limit information set on the route where the own train travels, the train speed to be detected by the speed detecting means, and the gradient or gradient acceleration detected by the gradient detecting means, and outputting the commands to a driving/braking apparatus.
