PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling a belt drive mechanism capable of processing a material to be processed held on a mobile body with high quality by accurately detecting the origin of the mobile body to accurately detect the position of the mobile body, a belt drive mechanism, and a media processing device having the mechanism. SOLUTION: In this belt drive mechanism 100, a tray belt 113 is stretched between a tray drive pulley 111 rotated by a tray motor 124 and a tray driven pulley 112 rotatably supported, and a media tray 51 fixed to a part of the tray belt 113 is moved by the traveling of the tray belt 113. After the media tray 51 is moved until it abuts on a movement restriction member 132 installed at one end of a moving route for the media tray 51, the rotation of the tray drive pulley 111 rotated by the tray motor 124 is stopped, and after the lapse of a predetermined time, the position of the media tray 51 is detected to determine the origin O of the media tray 51.
