PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame-retardant copolyester composition excellent in melt dripping resistance (dripping resistance) and a self-extinguishing property, and to provide a flame-retardant polyester fiber. SOLUTION: This flame-retardant copolyester composition is characterized by containing substantially spherical fine particles containing phosphorus atoms and having an average primary particle diameter of≤100 nm in a copolyester copolymerized with a specific phosphaphenanthrene-based organic phosphorous compound in an amount of 0.3 to 1.5 wt.% as phosphorus atoms in an amount of 0.1 to 5 wt.% based on the copolyester. A formed product, especially a fiber, obtained from the same is especially excellent in dripping resistance and a self-extinguishing property, and is useful in fields of clothing, interiors, industrial uses, and the like.
