PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microorganism-controlling agent and method for controlling the microorganisms, achieving high effectiveness continuously by the addition in low concentration, and exhibiting high safety and also an easy handling property. SOLUTION: This microorganism-controlling agent contains a compound expressed by general formula (I) [wherein, R1, R4are each a 1-4C linear or branched alkylene; R2, R5are each H, a halogen atom, a lower alkyl or a lower alkoxy; R3is a 2-12C linear or branched alkylene; R6is a 1-18C linear or branched alkyl; and Z-is an anion dissociable in water] as an active ingredient.
