PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress increase in area of a serial access memory, reduce writing time, and increase margin of low voltage operation. SOLUTION: A transfer section 3A is prepared for connecting a data line CLi with a bit line BLi of a pair of bit lines corresponding to the data line CLi when writing and reading a memory block 1 and giving "L" to the bit line /BLi corresponding to the data line when data on the data line CLi is "H". Herewith, complementary data corresponding to the data on the data line CLi is obtained on the bitline BLi and bit line /BLi so that the complementary data can be given to a pair of bit lines BLi and /BLi by using a single data line CLi. Therefore, increase of the area of the serial access memory is suppressed, the writing time is reduced, and the margin of low voltage operation is increased. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
