PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect disengaging operation of a clutch by a simple and inexpensive constitution with high accuracy. SOLUTION: In Step S3, it is determined whether or not a clutch switch (CSW) 8 is ON. If YES, a driver determines that a state the a clutch pedal is stepped on is continued, and the program advances to S4. If NO, the program advances to S11, and it is determined whether or not the acceleration data for one second is available in order to eliminate any mistaken estimation by the chattering or the like of the CSW 8. If YES, the mass estimation of a vehicle is executed in S12. If NO, the mass estimation is invalidated in S13. In S4, it is determined whether or not the ON state of the CSW 8 is elapsed for 4 seconds. If YES, the program advances to S5. If NO, the program advances to S7. In S5, it is determined whether or not the engine speed is lower than a predetermined value TNe. If YES, it is determined that the speed change operation is continued, and the program advances to S6. If NO, the engine speed is equal to or more than the predetermined value TNe though the CSW 8 is in ON state, and it is determined that the engine is a step-on operating state, and the program advances to S8.
