PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parking assisting device and a parking assisting method capable of ensuring a learning effect so that a driving technique for backward parking can be constantly maintained while assisting the backward parking. SOLUTION: The present position of the one's own vehicle with respect to a pair of parking frame lines L1, R1 provided to regulate the right and left positions of a desired parking position is detected. Attention attracting information for attracting the attention during the parking operation is selected according to the detected present position of the one's own vehicle, and the selected attention attracting information is presented to a driver in a stressed manner via a monitor 14.
