PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device for minimizing voltage applied to a liquid crystal layer, when a power source switch is turned off. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device includes a plurality of scanning electrodes and a plurality of signal electrodes, a scanning line drive circuit, a signal line drive circuit, a control part, and a detection part. A switching element and the liquid crystal layer are connected in series on a part intersected to the plurality of the scanning electrodes and the plurality of the signal electrodes. The detection part transmits a detection signal to the control part when it is detected that the power source switch of the liquid crystal device is turned off. The control part controls the scanning line drive circuit so that polarity of potential applied on the plurality of the scanning electrodes is reversed to reference potential each one-field period when receiving the detection signal. Thus, a power source is shut off while the polarity of the scanning potential of the mutually adjacent scanning electrodes is different, and the occurrence of flickering can be suppressed.
