PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discover a gene that exhibits a very low expression level in normal tissues and a cancer-specific high expression level, and to provide a new method for detecting the cancer using the gene. SOLUTION: Gene-encoding ADAMTS16 exhibits cancer-specific high expression level. By comparing this expression level with the normal level, objective detection of the cancer can be made.
