PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a servo writer capable of greatly improving the straight advance movement of a servo signal recorded beforehand in a magnetic tape. SOLUTION: The specific section 1A of a base plate 1 where a servo signal recording part 4 is disposed is made of stone, and a loss coefficient tanδwhich becomes an evaluation index of its damping characteristics is set within the range of 0.01>tanδ>0.001. Thus, the vibrations of a delivery motor a magnetic tape delivery part 2 and a winding motor composing a magnetic tape winding part 3 are damped by the specific section 1A of the base plate 1, and the straight advance movement of a servo signal which the servo write head 4A of a servo signal recording part 4 records beforehand in a magnetic tape MT is greatly improved.
