Provided is a projecting device (100) of a rear projection type for enlarging and projecting an image displayed by a display element, on a screen (S). The projection device comprises a projecting optical system including, sequentially from the side of the display element, a first optical system (L1) having a positive power and a second optical system (L2) having a reflecting face of a positive power, and a plane mirror (20) mounted in the projecting device substantially at a right angle with respect to the screen, for reflecting the light emitted from the projecting optical system, toward the screen. The projecting device is constituted such that the effective reflection region of the reflecting face of the positive power is arranged so farther than the optical axis of the first optical system as is viewed from the plane mirror.
