A test plug assembly includes a shaft on which an annular elastic seal an d compression elements are mounted. The compression elements confront opposi te axial sides of the annular seal and are movable relative to one another f or axially compressing and radially expanding the seal into fluid-tight seal ing engagement with an inner peripheral wall of a pipe. A transducer is moun ted on the distal end of the shaft and measures a condition within the pipe at a location beyond the seal. For example, the transducer is a temperature compensation pressure transducer for obtaining pressure measurements within the downstream portion of the pipe beyond the test plug The transducer produ ces electrical signals and is in communication with a control unit located e xternally of the pipe. The control unit converts the electronic signals of t he transducer for driving a display apparatus to provide visible or audible information and/or warning signals concerning the measurements.
