<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with which an afterimage on the side face is reduced without deteriorating an opening ratio. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a substrate, a light shielding member formed on the substrate, a columnar gap member formed on the light shielding member, and an alignment layer formed on the construction formed on the substrate, wherein a cross section of the columnar gap member includes an opposite edge facing a rubbing direction of the alignment layer and including at least one linear portion, and a non-opposite edge which is remaining after withdrawing the opposite edge, and an acute angle between the linear portion of the opposite edge and the rubbing direction of the alignment layer is 15° or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
