PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To limit a cost increase to a minimum without any increase in the number of components to detect an excessive current of an actuator in the optical pickup of an optical disk device. SOLUTION: When an optical disk 15 is played in an optical disk playback device 1, by determining flowing of an excessive current through the actuator of an optical pickup 3 if interrupt signals are generated continuously by a predetermined times or more at predetermined time intervals, the signals to notify the occurrence of lens shifting to move an objective lens disposed in the actuator of the optical pickup 3 in a diameter direction, the tracking servo of the optical pickup 3 is turned off to protect the objective lens.
