(nm) is the retardation measured at intervals of 50 mm within the glass substrate with a light beam perpendicular to the surface of the glass substrate and ? (°) is the angle of direction of the retardation with respect to the direction along the side of the glass substrate and A' is a value determined by {sin(2?<SUP>2</SUP>x{sin(180° ?/550<SUP>2</SUP> at a given measurement point a' adjacent to the measurement point a.</p>
