The method involves forming or receiving a binary signal that has 0-value signal status when an actuating unit takes up a predetermined position or predetermined position region. The binary signal exhibits 1-value signal status when the actuating unit does not takes up a predetermined position or predetermined position region. The respective signal status of the binary signal and continuously detected position information are combined for forming a position signal in such a manner that the signal status and detected position information is selectively called from the position signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for transferring of electrical position information of actuating unit e.g. valve unit (2) a sensor such as hall sensor or magneto-resistive sensor for detecting a position of an actuating unit such as valve unit.
