A lightweight golf club head exhibiting excellent strength. The golf club head comprises a hollow structure formed equipped with a face shell having a ball hitting face, wherein the face shell has a central thick portion formed by allowing the central region on the back side of the ball hitting face to project to the back side, and a longitudinal thick portion formed by allowing an elongated region spreading from the crown shell to the sole shell through the central thick portion to project to the back side. The golf club head is characterized in that the longitudinal thick portion is narrower than the central thick portion and is not smaller in thickness than the central thick portion.
