PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque converter wherein engine brake effectively works with a foot released from an accelerator. SOLUTION: A one-way clutch 11 is provided between a turbine hub 10 on which a turbine runner 2 is mounted and a front cover 7. The one-way clutch 11 idles during normal drive and works during reverse drive to transmit the torque of an output shaft to the front cover 7, not via a piston 4 or the turbine runner 2.
