A test system comprises a sensor container (460) and a testing device (410). The sensor container (460) has a base and a lid. The container (460) encloses a plurality of test sensors therein. The container includes a calibration label (464) attached thereto. The label (464) includes electrical contacts (470) located thereon that encode calibration information onto the calibration label. The testing device (410) has a sensor-container opening (422) formed thereon. The sensor-container opening (422) has an auto-calibration (426) feature located therein. The auto-calibration feature (426) is external to the testing device. The auto-calibration feature (426) includes calibration elements (428) to communicate with the electrical contacts (470) on the calibration label (464). The testing device determines the calibration information encoded on the calibration label in response to the calibration elements engaging the electrical contacts. A portion of the sensor container (460) remains external to the meter (410) while the encoded calibration information is being determined.
